Saturn cycles with natal Saturn

March 28th, 2010

The method described in ‘Saturn cycles with a planet’ is very clearly seen in Saturn cycles with natal Saturn  This is a natural development cycle that influences all human beings.

First experience of Saturn in waxing square with itself

happens around the age of 6-9 and indicates the development of the discriminating mind.  This period helps you discern the differences in your life and that of others and the differences between yourself and others.  As a result there is often a period of questioning about your family, teachers and general life structure.

At this age you often realize that some of the things you are being taught don’t make sense, but because you are a child and dependent upon the adults in your life, you put aside your thoughts until you are older.

If you are taught that people of different religions, skin color, educational standard etc., are inferior or enemies it is a time where prejudices can be accepted as fact.  These prejudices can be most difficult to change later in your life.

First experience of Saturn in opposition to natal Saturn

This occurs around the age of 14-15. It is usually a time of socialization and rebellion.  Teenagers tend to discard their parent’s guidance and opinion and turn to their peer group for acceptance.  At times this can be dangerous as unhappy children tend to run away from home and consequently are at risk from predators.  Children of this age will also experiment with alcohol, drugs and sex as they do not have enough life experience to realize the long term harm it can produce.

On a positive level this is the time where you learn and practice the art of relating to others.  You learn what you personally desire in a relationship and learn about the effect you can have on other people.  Social interaction and the acceptance of your peers  are all important.

First experience of Saturn in waning or upper square to itself

This usually occurs around the age of 21-22.  This starts the period of ‘practicing adulthood’.  It describes the time where you have enough life experience to make decisions for yourself and to start effectively functioning in the adult world.

The natural rebellion that first occurs at 14-15 starts to settle down as you realize that you want to fit into society as a whole, not just relate to your peer group.

You wish to build a career and/or life path that experience has told you will bring benefits.

As the period between 22-29 is a period of practicing to be a adult, if you make mistakes there are usually a number of full adults who will help you resolve problems or help you solve the results of back decisions.

First Saturn return

Occurs between the age of 29-30.  This is the period where you become a full adult.

At age 27 on your first Secondary progressed Moon conjunct natal Moon, about two years before your Saturn return,  your unconscious starts a natural process of looking back over your whole life.  This is to assess what has worked in your life and should be kept for your adult years and what has brought unhappiness and difficulty and should be discarded.

If the unconscious has any problems with these decisions,  over the period between 27-29.5  it will bring people, places and situations into the current life that in some way echo difficulties that occurred during childhood programing.  You will replay these situations to sort out what you really want in life.

From decisions made during this process, previous structures in life are either confirmed as part of the adult life or discarded in an effort to build new structures that better fit your nature.

When the Saturn Return is complete you are considered a full adult who faces the consequences of your actions and decisions.

Saturn then starts its cycle all over again.  Each time Saturn by transit aspects its natal place further assessments and decisions are made and each time gives you an opportunity to improve existing structures in your life or discard those which are not working.

Saturn cycles with a planet

March 28th, 2010

Following the first Saturn square Saturn each planet and angle will be triggered by a dynamic Saturn transit approximately every 7.25 years.  During this period you can build on existing psychological and physical structures if they have brought benefit and change them if they have not.

Saturn contacts will always show you areas in your life that have been structured successfully, areas where there are faults or problems and areas that are just not worth continuing and need to be discarded.

Saturn will always bring rewards if you show expertise in the areas it transits.  Saturn’s job is to also show up imperfections and lack of ability so it will bring difficulties, blocks, delays and real problems if that area is not functioning well.

To understand these transits it is wise to check if the natal planet was activated by Saturn during the first 7 or so years of life.  See if you can remember or find out what was going on in your family’s life during that period.  This will give you and idea of the programming connected to that planet – whether it is well structured and brings benefits or whether it was a period of difficulty that your or your family were unable to overcome.

Transiting Saturn conjunct natal planet or angle:

Then look back to the last time transiting Saturn was conjunct that planet or angle.  The conjunction is the period where old structures can be improved or discarded and new structures developed.  See if the new structures were a ‘positive imprint’ or a ‘negative imprint’  for example, did you get gloomy, negative and hostile during the previous Saturn conjunct planet or did you sort out any problems this brought out in a positive and practical way.

The first Saturn square after the conjunction:

This is called a ‘waxing square’ .  This period will show you the results of decisions made approximately 7.25 years ago.  It can present difficulties and problems connected to these decisions.  It can also bring rewards for decisions that have proved successful.

There are sometimes delays and blocks during this Saturn square but at times they can be a blessing in disguise that prevent you acting prematurely or make you reassess a situation that required further information.

Any problems shown by this transit needs to be addresses or it will produce many more difficulties if it is left unresolved.

Saturn opposition to a natal planet or angle:

This occurs approximately 7.25 years after the first Saturn square and 14.5 years after the conjunction.

This opposition will activate your partner, your spouse,  a consultant or counselor into giving their input into how your planetary structure is working.  There can be confirmation that the partnership is of benefit to both people, or it can  be a time where, if a partnership is clearly not working, you or the partner decide to end it.     If others are causing difficulties it can also be a time where legal action is required.

The waning Saturn square

This is the period where Saturn squares a planet or angle 7.25 years after it was in opposition to that point.  It occurs approximately 21.75 after the original transiting Saturn conjunction.  This is the period that usually gives benefits as a result of the structures built at the original Saturn conjunction and any improvements made during the previous Saturn square and opposition.

This is a time where you can peak in areas connected to the planet and house that were originally activated.

Alternatively, if you have built faulty structures in the previous 21.5 years, it can be a time where everything comes crashing down.

The period between the waning Saturn square and the next Saturn conjunction

is a time of gaining benefit from skills developed or recovering from a wipe-out – depending upon the results of the waning Saturn square.  It is often a time of considerable assessment of matters connected to the planet being transited and scenarios developed on how you would like this energy to work in the future.

Special Saturn Transits:

If transiting Saturn is forming an aspect to a natal planet or angle and an outer planet (Uranus, Neptune or Pluto) is also forming an aspect to that planet or angle, Saturn will include the nature of the outer planet into the structures it is building with the natal planet.  This will usually indicate a period of life that is more than ordinary and will often change the nature of the natal planet to fit the new structures.

Saturn Transits in Infancy

March 28th, 2010

Saturn is connected to the structures of our life.  This can include the structures of the physical body, life style, mind and emotions.

It is particularly influential in the early programming of the psyche before the ages of 6 -9.

Before this age our minds are wide open to the programs of our parents and environment.  As a result the experiences of the period from 0 – 7 builds the karmic structures of the life.  Habit patterns and beliefs formed between 0 -7 are very hard to change.

Between the ages of 6-9 the conscious mind develops a discriminative faculty and starts to determine the differences between yourself as an individual and other people.  You start to learn what you enjoy and what benefits you personally and realize this can be quite different to another’s desires.  You start to learn what is good for you and what is bad for you.  You learn to run away from harm.

During the first 6-9 years of life transiting Saturn will make contact with  planets and angles in the natal chart.  The conjunctions, squares and oppositions of transiting Saturn are particularly important as these are the timers that activate karmic programming for this life time.  Sometimes this is very stressful, sometimes it is quite pleasant and sometimes not all that noticeable.  All of these reactions are part of the development of your karmic patterning and are part of the natural process of life.

Transiting Saturn will also move through a particular area in the natal chart, making this area responsive to subconscious conditioning.  Any events connected this area will produce a life pattern that is rather hard to change as it was set in motion before the child’s conscious, discriminative mind was developed.

Unusual, intense or traumatic situations can occur when outer planets move through the natal chart together with transiting Saturn.  If this occurs during the first seven or so years of life it can describe subconscious blocks that require release and healing and/or exceptional talents that are seeded at this time and manifest at a later date.

When transiting Saturn connects to a planet or angle check to see if it is making any natal aspect to that point.  If it is you will activate this energy to help deal with the Saturn transit.

E.g. Natal Saturn may sextile natal Moon.  Sometime during the first 2 – 2.5 years of life its transit will square natal Moon.  The child will activate the inherent practical, mental, emotional and communicative abilities of the natal Moon sextile Saturn to handle the pressure of transiting Saturn square natal Moon and develop the aforementioned skills.  It could be as simple as learning to work with plasticine and build figurines  and in this way release emotional pressure, or even have an older person help you learn to talk!

The art for a parent is to watch for these transits and help the child find creative and/or communicative outlets for the energy being activated.

ANGELINA JOLIE

Here is the chart of famous film actress Angelina Jolie, who is rumored to have had a difficult childhood with possible sexual abuse:-

Click chart to enlarge

She completed her first transiting Saturn square natal Saturn in early August 1982 when she was seven years and three months old.  This closed the door to karmic programming and opened the door to the beginning of personal discrimination.  So, to see karmic programming, we  map all transits of Saturn conjunct, square and opposite placements in her natal chart that happened before August 1982.

You can see that in this period transiting Saturn will move through her 1st, 2nd and third house and finish with a conjunction to her IC.  This sector of the chart is a very private sector where you learn about yourself and your needs, so it is quite appropriate for an infant and small child.

Transiting Saturn conjunct Venus-Ascendant

The first major conjunction was transiting Saturn conjunct natal Venus and Ascendant through late August 1975 to May 1976 (click to see timeline Angelina Jolie Saturn transiting Venus Ascendant),  Angelina was still an infant as this transit occurred between the ages of 2 months – 11 months.  Both Venus and Saturn are in the natal 12th house so there could have been some secrets or hidden issues activated by this transit.

Saturn rules the natal 6th and 7th houses (Capricorn) and 8th house (Aquarius) so there may have been some difficulties in dealing with people who fitted these house descriptions – possibly a nanny, servant or someone who looked after her regularly.  As the 8th house is involved there could have been some early sexual abuse or the loss of someone she loved.  Whatever happened, she would have felt some helplessness and perhaps felt worthless – the negative result of transiting Saturn over Venus.

Angelina was also having transiting Uranus activating her natal Venus-Ascendant square Uranus until mid August 1975, so there was an outer planet involved in the powerful Saturn conjunction, patterning in an obsession or compulsion with a tendency to rebellion and the desire to ‘do her own thing’.  Uranus is ruler of her natal 8th house so again emphasized is possible sexual abuse or loss of someone.

For further development of the imprint received during this time we would look at the period when Solar Arc Saturn moved to conjunct natal Venus-Ascendant in 1987, when she was 11-12, as this would manifest any insecurities or obsessions/compulsions connected to imprints received  in her first year of life.

If Angelina wanted to see a therapist, this period of life would be the first too look at for healing.

Transiting Saturn square natal Sun-Neptune-Vertex

The next major Saturn activation was transiting Saturn square natal Sun-Neptune-Vertex  between October 1978 – August 1979, when she was 3-4 (click to see timeline Angelina Jolie transiting Saturn square Sun)

This was a very powerful transit  as the Vertex was being activated and this brought destined events into her life.

Transiting Saturn was moving through the second house of self-esteem, self-worth and financial well being.  It was in square to natal Sun which rules the 2nd house, so we immediately know that her sense of self-worth was being threatened.  As the Sun and Saturn are involved, it is likely that this threat came from her father and/or other prominent men in her life.  With the Sun in the 11th house it could also have involved difficulty through or the loss of someone she thought of as a friend.  This period would have been the beginning of her difficulties with her father that still bedevil her to this day.

It is also likely she met someone she was destined to know during this period.

Transiting Saturn square Neptune is usually not considered easy, but this transit at age 3-4 was probably the beginning of her compassion for deprived children.  Neptune is conjunct the Vertex in the 5th house of creativity and children and ruler of the 9th house of foreign lands, so she has adopted children from foreign lands.  As the Vertex is involved, this was part of her destiny.  Interestingly her Neptune-Ascendant astro-carto-graphy line runs through Africa and Angelina feels a strong pull to that part of the world.

This transit could also have activated her skill in acting and film and perhaps could have been the age she first started ‘plays’ and play acting.

Situations imprinted into her unconscious mind between the ages of 3-4 by Saturn transits would also manifest at age 11-12 when Solar Arc Saturn semisquared natal Sun.   Manifestation in the outer world would also have occurred in 1982, when Tertiary Progressed Saturn was in semisquare to natal Sun.

Transiting Saturn square natal Mercury

The next major contact was transiting Saturn square natal Mercury between October 1979 – July 1980, when Angelina was 4-5.  This was joined by transiting Neptune opposing natal Mercury in 1980, bringing an outer planet into the mix.  (Click here to see time line Angelina Jolie Saturn transit Mercury)

Again we get matters to do with friendship emphasized as Mercury is natally in the 11th house.  Communication and siblings are also in the mix as Mercury rules the 3rd house.  This is a time of secrecy and lies as Neptune is in the mix.  It is also a time when Angelina developed her imagination (Neptune) to enable her to handle difficult situations in the above areas.  It would have been the time she started to learn how to structure her communication abilities – perhaps by learning to read or write or draw.

Transiting Saturn conjunct natal Pluto

This occurred between November 1980 to August 1981 (click to see time line Angelina Jolie Saturn transiting Pluto) when Angelina was 5-6 years old.

Pluto is in the natal 3rd house.  This house is connected to siblings, primary school, neighbors, all matters to do with communication and transport, so we would expect a strong emphasis on at least one of these areas in her life.

Pluto is ruler of her 5th house as it has Scorpio on the cusp, so matters to do with creativity, love and perhaps sport would also be emphasized.  Pluto is in Libra, which is Saturn’s sign of exaltation, so the Saturn transit is likely to have brought long term benefits albeit with some pressure or stress.

This is likely to be the time that she started school and/or had a teacher or tutor who strongly affected her.  She would have responded well to all forms of creativity, but not responded to her ABC’s etc., if her teacher was too severe, so this too would be an important area to discuss in a consultation.

This would be a time where Angelina may have learned the value of schedules, timing and organization.  It is also the time where matters to do with her brother would have influenced her quite strongly.

So we know that Angelina’s Venus-Ascendant; Sun-Neptune-Vertex; Mercury; and Pluto  are all very sensitive points in her natal chart as they were activated by Saturn transits before her first Saturn square natal Saturn at 7 years and two months of age.  These points are where infant programming and perhaps infant trauma occurred and would also be points where survival patterns were set in motion.  They describe areas of instinctive behavior that is difficult to change, but could respond to energy healing methods to release trauma or ‘stuck’ energy.

Calculating Duad and Dwad charts

January 21st, 2010

Duads are twelve 2.5 degree segments of a zodiac sign. Each duad starts with the zodiac sign and then progresses through each of the following signs in order. E.g. If the zodiac sign is Sagittarius, then the first 2 degrees 30 minutes will be the Sagittarius duad of Sagittarius, the second 2 degrees 30 minutes will be the Capricorn duad of Sagittarius, the third 2 degrees 30 minutes will be the Aquarius duad of Sagittarius .. and so on.  (Click to see Duad Table )

There is a second kind of division where the 1st dwad of any sign is the Aries dwad, the 2nd is the Taurus dwad .. and so on.  These are easy to calculate on a computer because they are the 12th harmonic chart.

CALCULATING THE DUAD CHART BY HAND OR WITH CALCULATOR

As each duad is a “mini sign” the 2½ degrees it covers can be converted into the 30 degrees of a normal zodiac sign and make a whole new duad chart. It is relatively simple to calculate the duad zodiac degree by taking the start of the duad degree away from the degree of the planet and then converting that degree into the zodiac degree within that duad.

For example: Adam’s natal Sun is 8Scorpio23. This is the Aquarius duad of Scorpio and that duad starts at 7.30° Scorpio

08.23 – 07.30 = 0.53

So Adam’s Sun duad is 0° 53’ into the Aquarius duad. Using a calculator that calculates in units of 60, you can multiply 0° 53’ x 12 and this will give you 10°.36’ Therefore Adam’s duad Sun is 10° 36’ of Aquarius.

You can follow the same method for all the other planets and angles in the chart to make up a duad chart.  The duad chart has the Ascendant in the same position as that of the natal chart,  but the MC and IC can be in any house in the duad chart.   Mercury and Venus can be anywhere in the duad chart, they don’t have to be close to the Sun.

Following this the dwad chart is quite easy to calculate as the planets and angles will be in the same degree as that of the duad chart, but usually in a different dwad sign.

USING SOLAR FIRE DELUXE or SOLAR FIRE GOLD

Esoteric Technologies were kind enough to incorporate the calculation of duad charts in their program.

To calculate the duad chart, highlight the natal chart on the first page of Solar Fire, then go to the “Chart” menu, click Vedic and then Vedic D12 Dwadashama. Click OK. The computer will ask you if you want to use Vedic settings click NO and you will have your duad chart.

To calculate the dwad chart, go to the Chart menu on the top left hand side, then click ‘Harmonics, Transform..’ then click Harmonic Chart.  In the box above titled ‘Harmonic’ put in 12 and then click OK.  You then have the 12th harmonic chart, which is the dwad chart.

The Vertex Axis in Relationships

December 17th, 2009

The late L. Edward Johndro (30 January 1882, 12.30 am, Franklin Center, Canada – Vertex conjunct South Node in Gemini) first presented the Vertex for consideration to the astrological world. He reasoned that if the Ascendant was determined by the intersection of the Great Circles of the Ecliptic and Horizon and the MC was determined by the intersection of the Great Circles of the Meridian and Ecliptic, there should also be a very sensitive point of energy at the intersection of the Great Circles of the Prime Vertical and the Ecliptic. He called the western axis of this point the Vertex and the eastern the antiVertex. He felt that the Vertex was the electrical, the Ascendant the magnetic and the MC the gravity axis in a natal chart.

The late Charles Jayne of New York (9 October 1911, 10.53 pm, Jenkintown, PA, – antiVertex conjunct Mars in Gemini) also deduced that the Vertex was a very important point in a natal chart. He and his students researched this further and came to the conclusion that the Vertex axis seemed to describe fateful or karmic encounters with others which completely changed the lives of those involved. He felt that the western point, the Vertex, was the strongest side of the axis.

I first discovered the Vertex around 1976-77. To explore how it worked I adjusted the calculations to the Southern Hemisphere and then studied its effect on my clients when it was activated by transits, Solar Arcs and Progressions. This has given me a whole Saturn return period of “hands on” research with thousands of people.

Like Jayne and his students I found that the Vertex axis can be a very powerful factor in relationships. The Vertex axis conjunct any of the angles, in exact conjunction with house cusps and/or activating a planet in the other’s chart gives a feeling of ‘destiny’ in a relationship. These positions can describe the type of relationships that pull people together even if there are almost impossible obstacles to overcome, or if there seems to be no common ground for the couple.

Vertex connections touch the soul. An association with someone can last a few minutes or a lifetime but you always remember it. The book and film “The Bridges of Madison County” starring Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep, described this type of relationship.

Planets involved in Vertex axis connections usually describe the quality of the relationship, so one person’s Mars on another person’s Vertex would tend to give a very active and perhaps aggressive or passionate relationship, whereas one person’s Venus on the others Vertex axis would tend to give a gentle, sensual, loving relationship.

If you have a planet conjunct the Vertex axis it tends to make this axis the most powerful in your natal chart. If the Vertex axis is active, it takes precedence over the other angles.

To demonstrate how powerful a Vertex axis connection can be I will use the charts of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

Brad Pitt

(Click chart to enlarge)
Brad Pitt

Brad has both Moon and Venus conjunct his antiVertex within a five degree orb (maximum orb is eight degrees). The Moon is ruler of his Vertex, so he has the ruler of his Vertex conjunct the antiVertex, making this axis very strong indeed.

A Moon-Vertex connection often makes the person appealing to the public and usually gives a destiny connected to the public in some area.

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie is also a ‘Vertex person’ with both ends of the axis activated by planets.

Her Vertex is conjunct Neptune in the 5th house of creativity and children and trine the ruler of the MC, Mars. This clearly describes a ‘destined’ career in films. This conjunction also describes her constant travelling and, as Neptune is ruler of the 9th house, her affinity for children from foreign countries. It also gives a strongly Neptunian flavour to her whole chart.

Her Sun is conjunct the antiVertex. Sun-Vertex axis connections frequently give fame or prominence – and she certainly has that! As this conjunction is in the 11th house, it would draw her to solar types of people she is destined to know as friends.

Synastry between Brad and Angelina

(Brad is inside wheel and Angelina is outer wheel)

(click chart to enlarge)

Brand and Angelina synastry

Look what happens with the synastry between the two. Angelina’s Neptune-Vertex is conjunct Brad’s Ascendant and her Sun-antiVertex is conjunct his Descendant.

Brad’s Vertex is conjunct Angelina’s Venus-Ascendant and his Moon-Venus-antiVertex is conjunct her Descendant.

This is called a Vertex-Ascendant swap and indicates an enormously powerful connection between two people. If planets are involved as well, no wonder they couldn’t resist each other.

I must make it clear that this connection doesn’t necessarily make for a happy, peaceful relationship, it irresistibly draws the people to each other but other configurations determine what kind of relationship it will be.

I think the reason the attraction or repulsion with this swap can be so strong is because the Ascendant-Descendant is the magnetic axis and the Vertex-antiVertex is the electrical axis of the body so bringing the two together has an effect that at times has been described as a ‘lightning bolt’ .

For comparison lets look at the

Synastry between Brad Pitt and his first wife, Jennifer Aniston

(Brad is the inside wheel and Jennifer the outer wheel)  (click for natal chart of  Jennifer Aniston)

(click chart to enlarge)

Brad and Jennifer synastry

This too describes a strong connection, with Jennifer’s antiVertex conjunct Brad’s Ascendant and her Vertex his Descendant. However we don’t have a Ascendant-Vertex swap, instead we have Jennifer’s Midheaven conjunct Brad’s Vertex. The MC-IC axis is considered the gravity axis of a chart so we have Jen’s gravity axis conjunct Brad’s electrical axis. Though this combination usually shows a powerful, destined connection, it is usually not as strong as the electro-magnetic axis as it activates the career focus (MC) rather than the physical focus (Ascendant).

If planets are also involved there are few people who can resist the pull of Vertex-Ascendant and film stars (who are used to almost always getting what they want) are rarely amongst that few.

Once Brad and Angelina had any form of long term physical contact his relationship with Jennifer didn’t stand a chance. The film Mr and Mrs Smith gave them that connection and ended his marriage to Jennifer.

Composite Charts

The composite chart of Brad and Angelina increases the power of their attraction to each other.
(click chart to enlarge)
Brad and Angelina composite

The Ascendant-Vertex connection is just as strong in the composite as the synastry, but Uranus is conjunct Ascendant-Vertex and Mercury-Chiron are conjunct Descendant-antiVertex. This makes the relationship much less peaceful. Though the pull to each other is just as strong, the Uranus-Mercury involvement makes the situation unusual and rather ‘nervy’ and irritable. Uranus rules the composite 5th house, so they were destined to have children together (ruler of the 5th conjunct Vertex) and as Mercury rules the composite 9th house they were destined to travel together. Mercury also rules the 12th house of sexual pleasure and secrets so I think there is quite a bit going on that has not been exposed to the general public.

Transits to composite

Transits to the composite chart work very well.

Once an Ascendant-Vertex relationship has ended, instead of the attraction that this configuration brought there tends to be an equivalent repulsion. The people involved can’t stand each other and often wonder what they saw in each other.  If this is the case for Brad and Angelina it poses some difficulties as they have three natural children and several adopted children to consider.

Brad and Jennifer

In contrast, here is the composite chart of Brad and Jennifer (click chart to enlarge)

Brad and Jennifer composite

This composite doesn’t have the ‘pull’ of the Ascendant-Vertex connections, but it does have planet-Vertex connections, indicating their relationship was also destined.  Notice the lovely exalted Jupiter conjunct Vertex, this suggests a very beneficial destined relationship, particularly as Jupiter is conjunct the 5th house of children and love.  I don’t know why they didn’t have children together, perhaps it was that rather difficult Saturn-Chiron conjunction near the cusp of the 5th house giving either a disinclination from at least one partner or difficulties in carrying a child to term.   If  the marriage had continued I am sure the Jupiter-Vertex would have successfully produced one child.

The Moon -antiVertex is just as strong and suggests their gentle appeal to the public, but the Moon in Capricorn could have also brought coldness at times.  Together they would have met Jupiterian and Lunar types of people whom they were destined to know.

Saturn transited the Vertex and Jupiter in 2003 and 2004.  This was probably the time span in which the movie was being made and indicated potential difficulties for their relationship.

Pluto transits to the difficult Uranus-Pluto opposing Saturn-Chiron in the composite chart during that time period also showed considerable problems and pressures within the marriage, which came to a head with the final Pluto transit in 2005.

Copyright (c) Alice Portman 2009

21st September 2016 Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt.  This is partially shown by the very difficult transiting Saturn square Neptune activating Brad’s Ascendant and Angelina’s Neptune-Vertex.

Click charts to enlarge.

brad-angelia-transits

It is also shown by the lunar eclipse of 16th September 2016 activating the Mars-Pluto square in the composite Davison chart.

Notice the lunar eclipse activating Davison Pluto and square Davison Mars, which in turn is activated by transiting Mars in the eclipse chart.

In addition, The Ascendant of the eclipse for the Davison location has transiting Saturn conjunct and transiting Neptune square.

I think Angelina is both very, very angry and very, very sad.

Observation of First Breath

December 16th, 2009

If anyone was at a birth and observed the birth moment, particularly the time the baby took its first breath, could you  e-mail me at aliceportman@optusnet.com.au or alice_mcdermott@yahoo.com mention that it is private data, and I will mark it so in my files.

I need direct observation, not birth certificate or rectified times.

It would also be helpful if you could say if the birth was all natural or medically assisted i.e. through induction; forceps; drugs; mother being ‘put to sleep’; Caesarean .. etc.,

To test out rectification methods it would be good to have the time of life events and perhaps the birth data of parents and siblings as well. Don’t worry if these are not available as the observed time of birth is the most important factor.

Thank you.

Alice

The Vertex Axis

December 10th, 2009

In my previous article I described the Vertex axis as a ‘doorway’ that gives access to other realities.   The doorway of the Vertex axis can open to many different worlds.  It can describe that which delights, that which gives a touch of magic to life as well as that which can bring terror and horror.  The Vertex axis tends to intensify anything with which it has contact.

For an example of the more difficult manifestation of this doorway let us look at the chart of little Jenny who was horrifically beaten most of her life and murdered by her teenage mother when she was 2 years and three months old.  She was born on January 15th 1983 2.15 pm MST in Las Cruces NM.*

(click chart to enlarge)

Jenny

Jenny had her Vertex in Scorpio, indicating very intense life experiences.  It was conjunct Saturn, the ruler of her 8th house as well as co-ruler of her 10th house of one parent.  The Vertex was also conjunct its ruler Pluto and this made up a midpoint structure of Saturn = Pluto/Vertex.    One can deduce from this combination that Jenny’s life experiences might not be very easy and could perhaps be very unpleasant.

On the date of her death Solar Arc Saturn was conjunct natal Vertex and transiting Pluto was conjunct natal Saturn, both activating these most difficult energies.  It is also interesting that the natal antiVertex was conjunct the Alcabitus, Placidus and Porphyry house systems’  Part of Death and this was triggered by Solar Arc Saturn, ruler of the 8th house.

Jenny Solar Arc and transit for death

The Function of the Vertex axis

Just as the 4th and 10th houses and their rulers often describe the parents and the 7th house and its ruler the partner, the Vertex axis and its rulers tend to describe the doorways to the next level of our evolution and the means by which this can happen. The contacts it offers are frequently intensely personal and activate deep levels within us that we may not have been aware of previously.  They can touch your soul.

For example: when his Vertex axis was being activated a curious business man went to a meeting where people were practising a hands- on method of levitation, but this man was unable to levitate- he just couldn’t ‘lift off’.  A wise person observed that his heart energy wasn’t working at all and rubbed that area of his body, the man then levitated up to the ceiling.  He said he had never felt love until then, he had no idea such a feeling existed.

Planets in close contact with the Vertex axis will often describe people, life forms, ideas and objects that have a profound effect on you or are instrumental in opening new doorways of perception for you.   I mention life forms because people have described angels, ghosts, spirits, animals, trees, mountains and many other life forms as part of their extraordinary Vertex axis experiences.  From listening to these peoples’ stories I have come to the conclusion that the Vertex axis can bring intensely shamanic experiences at times.

To illustrate the possibilities of a planet in close aspect to the Vertex lets observe the chart of respected astrologer Noel Tyl who was kind enough to publish this article in his Analytical Techniques section in April 2009.

Noel Tyl

He has his Vertex in Scorpio which will give very intense experiences in life, in the 5th house it would suggest these experiences are with love, children, sport and creativity.

As Noel rediscovered the quindecile aspect and has powerfuly presented its validity to the astrological community, I was fascinated to find that he had a quindecile aspect between his Vertex (destiny) and Uranus (astrology).   The quindecile to Uranus would give particular emphasis on Uranian types of people in these fields who are friends (Uranus in the 11th house)  and skilled in higher mind pursuits (Uranus ruler of 9th house).  These people would enthral and fascinate Noel, particularly if they also have Uranus strongly placed in their natal chart. They would open new doorways, new realisations and new possibilities for Noel.

For further emphasis Noel’s Uranus is quintile Venus, the ruler of the anti-Vertex.  The quintile aspect would give a creative thrust involving these associations.

For even further emphasis there is a septile pattern involving Venus-Neptune-Pluto, making a midpoint structure of  Venus = Neptune/Pluto.   Contact between both ends of the Vertex axis and/or their rulers usually strengthen the power of this ‘angle’. Neptune is ruler of the MC, bringing this configuration into career focus.

Noel Tyl septiles

Activation of the Vertex axis.

This can be a bit of a puzzle to research because many of the experiences given by the Vertex axis are very private and can be so unusual people hesitate to speak of them.

As his biography has given clear information, to illustrate an unusual activation I will use the chart of Uri Geller (20th December 1946, 2.00 am, Tel Aviv, Palestine). Since the publication of this article on Noel Tyl’s site people have contacted me to say Uri has been exposed as a fake.  As my own personal experiences convince me he isn’t I will still use his chart.

Uri Geller

Uri has his Vertex in Gemini, indicating a destiny involving communication and perhaps an involvement with matters connected to the air element.  His Vertex is in the 8th house suggesting access to very deep areas.   The North Node is conjunct the Vertex, indicating that he would have powerful and destined contacts with groups of people.  Uranus is conjunct the Vertex, indicating that he has access to unusual energies, particularly electrical energies as the Vertex axis is probably the electrical axis of the body and Uranus rules electricity.  This makes up a midpoint structure of Vertex = Uranus/Node.

At age four he had a mysterious encounter with a sphere of light that was eye-witnessed by a retired Israeli Air Force Officer.  At that age his Solar Arc North Node was conjunct natal Vertex and his Solar Arc Vertex was conjunct natal Uranus, activating the potential shown in his natal chart.  I don’t have the date for this event but would expect the Vertex axis would have also been triggered by transits and/or lunations at that time.   Further development of his skills would be shown by subsequent activations of his Vertex axis, but these are not published in his biography.

Relationships and the Vertex Axis

As has been shown by the above examples, the Vertex axis is not specifically oriented to romantic relationships.  It covers all kinds of experiences that can involve life forms of various kinds.  The one consistent factor is that these all open the mind or soul to encompass quite profound fields in the human dynamic, whether it its spiritual, emotional, mental or physical depends upon the condition of the Vertex axis and the planets with which it is in touch.

However, I and many other astrologers have noticed that profound experiences involving relationships can and do happen when the Vertex axis is triggered.  Passion, love and hate are emotions that reach the core of a human soul.  The rules of society rarely mean anything at all when these emotions are alive and people have radically changed their lives for better or worse during these times.

Powerful and destined experiences in relationships are particularly likely if you have your natal Vertex axis in the 5th-11th (love) or 7th-1st (partnerships) or in Leo-Aquarius or Libra-Aries. The Vertex in the 8th house or Scorpio-Taurus gives incredibly intense and deeply felt experiences.

You will find people  are particularly magnetic for you if they have their Vertex axis straddling your Ascendant-Descendant or your 5th-11th cusp.

Combined charts will often tell a clear and powerful story as well, particularly Davison charts.

The intense experiences the Vertex axis can bring into your life can be just for a moment  or last for a lifetime, but  because these experiences have touched your soul, you never forget the person and circumstances involved.

Quincunx, YOD, Pythagorean Triangle

December 9th, 2009

The quincunx, the YOD and the Pythagorean triangle are based on the 12th harmonic, which is found through dividing 360 degrees by 12 which equals 30 degrees.  The multiples of this division give us the:

semi-sextile   30 degrees;

sextile            30 x 2 = 60

square           30 x 3 = 90

trine               30 x 4  = 120

quincunx        30 x 5  = 150

opposition      30 x 6  = 180

As you can see, all the Ptolemaic aspects are derived from the 12th harmonic series.

The quincunx aspect:

Maximum orb is 2 degrees.

The quincunx aspect is a little like a bridge between signs that are different by element and modality.  Therefore they allow the person to have a rather quirky, flexible approach to situations that may cause puzzles or  problems to those who don’t have planets in these signs.  For this reason it often appears in the charts of those who are skilled at problem solving.

Quincunxes often describe a sense of humour – the ability to see the funny side of life in almost all circumstances – so they regularly appear in the charts of comedians.  This is particularly emphasised if  the quincunx is involved in a Pythagorean triangle (three or more planets in a square, quincunx and trine interlocking aspect)  the type of humour is shown by the planets involved in the configuration.

Here is the chart of Australian comedian Barry Humphries who has attained fame as Dame Edna Everage.

Barry Humphries

As you can see, he has a quincunx between his MC and Ceres-Uranus.  This makes up a Pythagorean triangle with Pluto-Vertex.  Pluto is ruler of his MC and conjunct the Vertex, giving a ‘destined’ career.  In the sign Cancer this career is in the public eye and in the 5th house in the area of entertainment.  It’s interesting that Barry attained considerable fame through dressing as a woman (Cancer).  Uranus, the ruler of the Ascendant,  in Aries in the 3rd house gives him considerable skill in communication and the sharp, quirky wit for which he is renowned.  Conjunct Ceres again suggests that this involves a female focus.  Barry’s chart is particularly powerful as the Pythagorean triangle involves the ruler of his Ascendant and his MC and a planet conjunct the Vertex – so all three angles are emphasised.

The quincunx aspect by itself will always show when there are changes in the life.  The signs and houses involved describe the area of change.   As the unexpected is a keynote of the quincunx, these changes require you to be both flexible in approach and ‘on your toes’ when they are activated.

The potential for Long distance travel is almost always shown in the chart by a quincunx, either through transits, progressions or directions involving a planet in the 9th house or the ruler of the 9th house.    It shows so frequently at times of travel because travel itself requires you to be flexible and open to changes

The quincunx aspect is almost always present when there is death as death also describes a period of considerable change both for the person who dies and their family and friends.  The quincunx will involve the eighth house or the ruler of the eighth and the house that describes the person who dies.  E.g. if there is a transit of Jupiter in the 4th house making a quincunx to Venus in the 8th house, which  in turn rules the sign on the cusp of the 4th house,  then a parent is likely to be the person who dies.

Home moves also almost always have a quincunx transit, progression or direction as does conception and childbirth.

It can even show up when you meet the love of your life as this is likely to completely change your life.

The YOD pattern

A YOD is made up of two planets in sextile (60°) aspect and a third planet in a quincunx (150°) aspect to both of them.  Ideally the third planet should be making up a close to exact midpoint structure with the other two.  The outside orb for a YOD is 2 degrees, unless it makes up a midpoint structure, in which case it can stretch to 2 degrees 30 minutes.

There are all kinds of mystical interpretations for a YOD as it is also called “The Finger of God”, but from my perspective it is an entirely practical aspect pattern requiring commonsense and flexibility in the areas activated by the planets involved.  If outer planets are involved in a YOD, then the person tends to have very powerful and often stressful experiences that change their perspective and outlook on life.  These experiences develop an awareness and insight that can give considerable wisdom.

Here is an example of a true YOD pattern involving Venus-Uranus-Pluto, with Venus at the point of the YOD.  This pattern makes up the midpoint structure of Venus = Uranus/Pluto

YOD

Forecasting:

Transits, progressions and directions that make a YOD pattern either with the natal chart or the progressed chart herald a powerful time in the life.

If just ordinary quincunx transits can indicate big changes in the life, imagine what transits making up a YOD in the natal chart can do!  It can greatly intensify the power of the transit and place considerable emphasis on the planet at the point of the YOD and the house and sign in which it resides.  It suggests major changes or considerable adjustment in matters connected to that planet, its house and sign through the people or circumstances described by the transiting planet(s).

This transit can be read as a midpoint transit, so it is handy to have a good midpoint interpretation book on hand – a couple of classics are Rules for Planetary Pictures’ by Witte-Lefeldt and  Ebertin’s ‘ Combination of Stellar Influences’;  These should give some idea of what to expect.

If you have a natal YOD,  transits, progressions or directions that activate this configuration will indicate important times in the life.  If the YOD involves outer planets, then when that outer planet activates either of the other legs of the YOD  by transit you are likely to have some powerful experiences that can make core changes to your nature and your approach to life.

The YOD illustrated above had transiting Uranus conjunct natal Pluto at age 13 when the person fell in love for the first time and transiting Uranus conjunct natal Venus at age 46, when she met a person who completely changed her environment and her life.  True to the nature of  Venus = Uranus/Pluto,  neither of these experiences were easy as both required involvement with people from completely different walks of life.  Interestingly both also involved the development of more strength and flexibility in the body – at age 13 through a sport and at age 46 through yoga.

I tend to think that transits by an outer planet to a natal YOD can, at times, have an almost Plutonic effect as the focus and intensity of this configuration can transform your life.

Will my friend’s health be OK?

December 8th, 2009

I had gone to an astrology conference in Sydney, but was worried about my close friend who had a serious heart condition.  She was due to have an operation and during a lecture I became overcome with deep concern for her.  After the lecture was over I went to my room and calculated the chart for this question.

(click chart to enlarge)

Horary friend's health with declinations

I was fascinated to see that the ascending sign and degree was the same as her natal Moon and the Sun was close to the degree of her natal Saturn.   This indicated the chart was a true horary.

The Moon, the ruler of the Ascendant, was in Leo and conjunct the South Node.  Leo rules the heart and the South Node can indicate intuition and psychic impressions.  As I was the querient this placement described me.  In addition as the Ascendant is Cancer, ruled by the Moon, the Moon’s Nodes have more importance than usual so the Moon conjunct the South Node in Leo could also describe the debilitating heart condition.

Friends are ruled by the 11th house.  This chart has Taurus on the cusp of the 11th and as Taurus is a very strong sign this indicated to me that she was stable.  In addition, the Moon, thought first applying to the South Node in Leo (describing the heart condition) had its next application of a trine to Venus-Pluto and, as Venus is the ruler of the 11th house of friends, this also suggested a good outcome.

In horary you can use ‘turned’ charts.  As my question was about my friend I could make the cusp of the 11th house the Ascendant for my friend.  Taurus is ruled by Venus so the placement of Venus becomes very important in the horary.

Horary friend's health

I was most disturbed to find that Venus was in the turned 8th house  (death) and in partile conjunction with Pluto – a planet that is often connected to either death or transformation.  It was also in the last degree of the sign, indicating that a matter was ending – and sesiquadrate the turned Ascendant, indicating that this was a matter which could cause severe health problems.

I decided to check the exact minutes of the degrees of Venus and Pluto as I felt that if Venus was separating from Pluto, even by a minute or two, my friend would be in great danger but would recover.  I found that Venus was actually at 29Sagittarius56’37” and Pluto at 29Sagittarius56’33” – about as close as it could get, but Venus was slightly separating by 4 seconds!

This meant that Venus was moving into a new sign, indicating a change in circumstances, and applying to a conjunction and parallel with Jupiter, indicating the situation would improve.

A day or so later my friend  underwent an operation where she died and was resuscitated.  She had 9 stents inserted into her heart.   The operation was a success and she fully recovered.

Where is my novel?

December 8th, 2009

I could remember taking the novel out of a shopping bag but couldn’t remember where on earth I had put it.

I searched the house on and off all day and then decided to sleep on it, hoping I would remember in the morning.

The next morning I started to search again and then thought to ask a horary question about it.  I calculated this chart:

Where is my novel

Possessions of all kinds are usually covered by the second house and its ruler, but books are sometimes signified by the third house and/or Mercury.

The Ascendant is Aquarius and the ruler, Uranus, is in Pisces in the 2nd house of possessions, indicating that this is a true horary as it describes the situation.

Both the 2nd and 3rd houses have Pisces on the cusp and Pisces is ruled by Jupiter and Neptune conjoined in Aquarius.  The ruler of the 2nd house in the first indicates that my possession is not far from me.

As the question was directly about a location I decided to create a local horizon chart to point me in the right direction. As Uranus was in the 2nd house and ruler of the Ascendant I determined that the direction of Uranus might be the correct one.

In a local horizon chart in the Southern Hemisphere the Midheaven is due North, the IC due South, the antiVertex is due East and the Vertex is due West.

Where is my novel Local Horizon Chart

I put the centre of the chart on the chair of the room where I asked the question.  As you can see the Uranus line pointed East and partly South of that position.  This was in the direction of my bedroom so I searched there but had no luck at all.

Pisces is connected to water and low lying places.   It often describes something that is hidden, in a box or covered by other objects so I carefully searched in all the drawers, cupboards and wardrobes.  No luck at all – I was beginning to feel very discouraged.

I happened to glance out of the window and realised that my car was parked exactly on the direction of the Uranus line

I searched the interior of the car with no luck and then thought to open the boot.  I found the book in an electric  blue (colour of Uranus) shopping bag near coolant (Pisces) and jumper leads (Uranus?).  I had taken the book out of one shopping bag and absently mindedly put it into another and then put it in the boot of the car to use for future shopping.

Almost all horary questions have a strong connection to the querent’s natal chart.  In this case the Ascendant is in my Sun sign and the Vertex conjunct my Saturn.
