Horary Astrology

Horary Astrology is a chart calculated for the exact moment in date, time and place that you thought of a question.

It works on the basis that one doesn’t think of a matter unless there is a vibrationary connection in time between you and the situation that caused the question.

A true horary will echo elements of your natal chart and/or the chart of a person involved in the question. This is such an amazing connection that very often, the duad of the Ascendant of the horary chart is in the same sign and even the same degree as your own Ascendant or natal planets/angles.

Horary can be used to answer almost any situation, find lost objects and sometimes missing people.

The question needs to be personal and important to you. Only you can ask it at the right time for the correct answer.

The astrologer you think of when you ask the question is the the one who will give you the correct answer.

Astrologers usually draw up the horary chart at the time they see or hear the question, which can be a different time and place to where you thought of the question, so a different chart is created. This doesn’t mean the horary chart for when you thought of the question is incorrect, it just means that the astrologer can answer your question with the information given in the 2nd chart, which resonates to their own understanding of horary and very often has amazing connections to the chart of the time you thought of the question.

There are different approaches to horary. Some people like to use techniques developed in older cultures, but I prefer the astrology developed and used in this day and age so call my type of horary astrology Modern Horary. Most astrologers who have had successful practices and have extensively used horary over the past 40 0r 50 years have done so without any of the more ‘traditional’ techniques now fashionable.

Southern Hemisphere astrologers need to be aware that the Midheaven shows the North direction and the IC the South, this is the reverse to the Northern Hemipshere. I have also found much more success using the Vertex axis for the East and West directions (Vertex =west, antiVertex = East) as this maps true East and West. Many of the “classical” astrology methods of horary need to be adjusted to Southern Hemipshere conditions.

There are many ways to read a horary chart and all systems of astrology have the tools to do this. I, and many other astrologers, have been successful in answering horary questions using the Cosmobiology system, which doesn’t use signs or houses but does use midpoints, though matters to do with location are not easily answered using this system.

Allison DuBois

In my studies of the Vertex axis I have discovered that it describes access to other realities (see article on Vertex in the Vertex menu).

As psychics regularly visit a reality that is not considered normal in today’s world, I thought that perhaps the Vertex axis would feature in the charts of the psychics I know.

In studying the charts of these psychics I found a consistent theme of a planet conjunct the Vertex within 8 degrees, in parallel of declination, or within a degree aspect to the Vertex.

The Septile patterns give the ability to comprehend other realities (see article on septiles under ‘Aspect’ menu) , so a combination of a planet connected to the Vertex and a septile pattern or septile aspect to an angle in the chart shows up regularly (invariably) in the charts of Australian psychics I have studied. Interestingly, so does a prominent Mars.

Allison DuBois has the Moon conjunct Saturn in the 8th house. These are both conjunct the Vertex, with Saturn also parallel the Vertex, increasing the power of the Saturn conjunction. The South Node is parallel the Vertex. If you use Transneptunians, Hades is also conjunct the Vertex. Obviously this can clearly describe her work in detecting murderers and finding murder victims.

As the Moon in the ruler of her Cancer Midheaven, its conjunction to Saturn-Vertex indicates that she uses this ability in her career and that she has a ‘destined’ career.

Venus, the ruler of the Taurus Vertex is in septile aspect to Mercury-IC, indicating her ability to communicate her skills (Mercury) and suggesting that her talents are inherited (IC).

Allison has the Sun conjunct the North Node and was born between a Solar Annular Eclipse on 16 January 1972 and a total lunar eclipse on 30 January 1972. The Sun conjunct either Node, particularly between eclipses, can give considerable psychic ability and a connection to spirits, ghosts, etc.

BUT the most fascinating thing about her chart is the enormous quintile pattern!

I have discovered that the biquintile in relationship to the Vertex axis frequently gives one of the ‘clair’ skills i.e. clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience etc. The quintile aspect itself is one of power (see article on quintiles under ‘Aspect’ menu)

So when I checked out Allison’s chart for this aspect my eyes nearly popped out of my head! Alison has perfect 5 point quintile star involving the Ascendant conjunct Uranus, quintile Jupiter in Sagittarius in 3rd, quintile Venus in Pisces in 5th (the ruler of the Vertex and the Ascendant), quintile the Vertex in Taurus in 8th, quintile South Node in Leo in 10th and back to Uranus-Ascendant! The Sun-North Node is quintile angular Mars and the antiVertex.

What POWER this person has! It seems to me she has yet to reach the full extent of her abilities. No wonder psychics call her “special amongst the special”

Allison also has Uranus conjunct Ascendant opposing Mars conjunct Descendant and both square Mercury conjunct IC, a powerful angular, cardinal T square giving considerable drive – and a very sharp tongue at times!

Uranus is often prominent in the charts of psychics, suggesting that many access an electrical energy field of some kind. Allison has it conjunct her Ascendant.

Mars angular confirms the theme I have found that many psychics have a strong Mars.

On the date the TV show ‘Medium” based on Allison’s life and experiences went to air (3 January 2005), transiting Jupiter was conjunct natal Uranus and triggered the whole quintile 5 point star. Solar Arc Uranus was conjunct her natal antiVertex and Solar Arc Descendant was conjunct her natal Hades.

Declinations

I have used declinations since I started learning astrology in the late’60’s and often wondered why people stopped working with them. I think the problem started when the American Ephemeris dropped them from their tables and it was not easy to find them from any other source. Now we have astrology programs that include declinations I think many people will start working with them again. Also Magi astrologers work extensively with these measurements and so have re-activated astrologers’ interest. Only use an orb of one degree for declinations, anything else is far too wide.

There are two systems of measurement.
• Declinations and Right Ascension measure the planets in relation to the Earth.
• Longitude and latitude measure planets along the ecliptic.

Declination in the sky is the same as latitude on Earth, so if a planet is 23N26 Declination it is overhead 23N26 latitude on Earth.

Latitude in Astrology is latitude of planets either side of the ecliptic, it is not in any way the same as declination.

It is really worth the little bit of extra effort to use declinations as they cover situations that are not so easily seen in longitude astrology and will give added emphasis to planetary conjunctions and other aspects. For example, a Jupiter-Pluto aspect in parallel of declination will be just as powerful as a Jupiter-Pluto conjunction in longitude, but astrologers who don’t use declinations could overlook this and be puzzled as to why a person with the parallel is very successful in a specific area.

For example: here is the chart of Paul McCartney, a founding member of the Beatles, one of the most successful musical groups in history. Their success was global and massive, and after the group disbanded, Paul McCartney founded another highly successful band.

As you can see, he has a Sagittarius MC with the ruler, Jupiter, conjunct the Sun in the 4th house. This would certainly give some measure of success, but look what happens when you factor in Declinations:

This map is quite easy to read. The table on the left shows the position of the planets in declination. The left column shows planets in North Declination and the right column show planets in South Declination. The table on the right show the planets declination, longitude and longitude equivalent.

You can easily see that there is a Jupiter-Sun-Pluto-IC parallel of declination all at 23N17-23N44 and contraparallel the MC at 23S17. Even though Pluto is nowhere near Sun and Jupiter in the natal longitude chart it is closely factored through declination. The connection to the MC enabled Paul to use the massive amount of success this offers in his career.

The USA has a strong Sun-Jupiter-Venus-Mars parallel, with Pluto contraparallel. I have always thought that this clearly describes the success and power of this country.

Barack Obama has a lovely Mercury-Venus-Pluto-IC rolling parallel of declination from 19N55 (IC) – 21N38 (Venus) This clearly gives him sweet and persuasive speech. So even though these planets are not in longitude aspect they are still very effective. This is strengthened and affects society as well as his own career because of a contraparallel to Jupiter-Saturn-MC.

Notice that this declination pattern aligns very nicely with the declination of the USA Sibly chart’s Vertex and anti-Vertex, indicating a destined association.

If planets are both conjunct and parallel, then this is an extremely powerful position in a natal chart as it means that these two planets are in exactly the same place in the sky. If the orb is exact on both the conjunction and the parallel, then one planet occults the other.

As declinations are a measurement from the Earth’s equator, parallels give the ability to manifest things on Earth. I consider them a particularly strong ‘aspect’.

I have always thought that Out of Bounds Planets (planets that move beyond 23NS26 declination – the limit of the Sun’s declination movement) give the ability to think outside the square or behave in ways that are not the norm for your society.

Here is an illustration that shows how declinations are found: The line that shows the ecliptic is meant to be curved, but I have been unable to find a way to make it so on the diagram.

Equilibrium Charts

Continued from ‘What are Arabic Parts’ article.

The Part of Fortune, Part of Spirit and all Arabic Parts are derived from

EQUILIBRIUM EQUIVALENT CHARTS

The Part of Fortune is in the degree, sign and house where the Moon would be if the degree of the Sun was the Ascendant degree

the Part of Spirit is the degree, sign and house where the Sun would be if the Moon degree was on the Ascendant.

To illustrate lets look at the chart of the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama.

You can see that his Part of Fortune is at 8 degrees 52 minutes of Sagittarius in the 10th house, so we know that he gains from career and administrative areas (10th house) and as it is in Sagittarius he will benefit from activity and leadership.

To hand calculate following the formula for the Part of Fortune (Ascendant + Moon – Sun) we get 318.03 + 63. 21 = 381.24 – 132.33 = 248.51, which, as 240 is 0 Sagittarius, equals 8 degrees 51 minutes of Sagittarius.

Solar Equilibrium Chart

But if we calculate the Solar Equilibrium Chart, where we put the Sun at the same sign and degree of the Ascendant and adjust all the other planets accordingly we get this:

The inner wheel is Barack Obama’s natal chart and the outer wheel is his Solar Equilibrium chart.

You can easily see that the Sun is on the Ascendant sign and degree and that the Moon is in exactly the same place as the Part of Fortune. This is because the Part of Fortune is the position of the Moon in the Solar Equilibrium chart.

The position of all the other planets in the outer wheel are also various Parts. e.g. the position of Venus in this chart is the Part of Marriage of Men (Ascendant + Venus – Sun), in Obama’s chart this is 7 degrees 18 minutes of Capricorn in his natal 11th house.

The position of Mars is the Part of Conquest (Ascendant + Mars – Sun), in Obama’s case this is at 28 degrees 05 minutes of Pisces in his natal 2nd house. Interestingly, when he accepted the Democratic Party’s nomination for him to run for President (28 August 2008, 8.4.44 pm, Denver Invesco Field CO) the antiVertex was conjunct this Part, Venus was opposite and Pluto was square. When McCain acknowledged defeat (4 Nov 2008, 9.19pm, Phoenix, Arizona) the MC was conjunct the Part and the Vertex was trine.

All Parts that have minus Sun in their formula are derived from the Solar Equilibrium chart.

Lunar Equilibrium Chart

All Parts that have minus Moon in their formula are derived from the Lunar Equilibrium Chart.

(click chart to enlarge) Barrack Obama’s natal chart is the inside wheel and the Lunar Equilibrium chart is the outside wheel.

You can see that the Sun in this chart is at 27 degrees 15 minutes of Aries. This is the Part of Spirit – and if you work out the Part of Spirit formula of Ascendant + Sun – Moon, you will see that this is so.

The placement of all the other planets in the outer wheel describe lunar parts :- So, from a man’s point of view the Part of Intercourse is the position of Mars in the Lunar Equilibrium chart and follows the formula of Ascendant + Mars -Moon. In Obama’s case this position is 7 degrees 16 minutes of Gemini in his fourth house.

All other planets have their own Equilibrium charts, so any formula that has minus Mercury in it describes the position of a planet in the Mercury Equilibrium chart .. and so on.

Fame and the Public

There is quite a bit more you can do with these charts. The Sun rules prominence and fame, so any planet or angle in the solar equilibrium chart that is conjunct a natal planet or angle will give the possibility of fame whenever this point is triggered by transits, progressions or directions. Obama has two strong points – Solar equilibrium MC is conjunct natal Moon and Solar equilibrium Pluto is conjunct natal antiVertex.

The lunar equilibrium chart shows the ability to connect with the public, so if you are a public figure the connection with Lunar equilibrium planets to the natal chart is very important. Obama has Lunar equilibrium Vertex axis straddling his natal MC-IC axis and Lunar Equilibrium MC conjunct his natal Sun. Every time these positions are triggered by transits, progressions or directions there would be a strong connection to the public.

I would suggest that to observe the accuracy of this system you calculate and keep on hand your equilibrium charts – at the very least your Solar and Lunar equilibrium charts.

Calculating Equilibrium charts

on Solar Fire this is quite easy:

highlight the chart you want and then go to the Chart Menu – Edit – Copy and Edit Chart. Make sure the house system is Equal house and then click OK.

Bring up a biwheel and place the copied chart in the inner wheel and the original chart in the outer wheel.

Right click mouse, then choose Multiwheel Superimposition. Under Superimposition type choose ‘By exact position of selected Points’ and then, under Superimposition Point choose the Sun (or the Moon or any planet for which you want to create an Equilibrium chart). Then click ‘Display Superimposition positions’ and then OK. The calculated chart will appear on your screen.

I first read of Equilibrium charts in my favourite book on the Lots “The Fortunes of Astrology” by Robert Hurzt Granite and have worked with them ever since.

What are Arabic Parts

Arabic Parts are not Arabic, they were originally called “The Fortunes”

Arabic Astrologer Al-Biruni compiled all the Fortunes that he could find in his civilisation and past civilisations in his book The Elements of Astrology written in 1029 AD. Because he was an Arab, the Fortunes became known as Arabic Parts or Arabic Lots.

The origins of the Fortunes have been lost in the mists of time, but have been used for at least a thousand years. Therefore they have stood the test of many, many centuries of time.

The Fortunes are NOT Planets, (though they are very powerful energy points), therefore they cannot actively aspect anything.

Fortunes are an interplay of planetary/angle/house cusp energies similar to (though not the same as) midpoints.

Fortunes can be created according to the nature of the culture/civilisation in which you reside.

Many ancient astrologers created their own Fortunes according to their perception of reality, so you can have different Fortunes for the same matter e.g. Part of Marriage. Therefore, you can create your own Fortunes using Chiron, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and various house cusp systems if you wish.

It is important to consider the Decanate and Duad of the Fortune

Though the Fortunes cannot actively aspect anything, they can receive aspects from planets, angles, transits, progressions, solar arcs and fixed stars. A conjunction or alignment to a Fixed Star is very powerful.

The conjunctions and oppositions are usually the most powerful, but trines, squares and quincunxes also work very well if they fit the nature of the Fortune.

It is powerful and important if the ruler of the sign of the Fortune aspects the Fortune.

Almost all Fortunes are derived from EQUILIBRIUM charts (see article)

Rules connected to use of Arabic Parts

1. A Part conjunct an angle or Planet is very strong

2. If the ruler of the Part aspects the Part, this increases its strength

3. If there are a cluster of Parts that are not derived from the same calculation, then this area of the chart is emphasised.

4. A Part is emphasised that has a planet in aspect to it that is part of the component in calculating the Part.

5. These rules also apply to Solar Arcs, Progressions and Transits.

The Part of Fortune (Fortuna)

(Spirit encompassing matter)

Everyone knows of this Fortune. It is used extensively in even basic astrology.

The Part of Fortune is made up of an interplay of energy between the Ascendant, Sun and Moon.

Its formula for calculation is Ascendant + Moon – Sun, but some astrologers suggests its formula for calculation varies depending upon whether the person was born during the day or at night. The reason for this variation is because the Sun is considered the life giver during the day, and the Moon during the night.

A person is born during the day if their Sun is above the Ascendant-Descendant axis. The calculation for this Part of Fortune is the degree of the Ascendant plus the degree of the Moon , minus the degree of the Sun. Written as: Asc + Moon – Sun

A person is born at night if their Sun is below the Ascendant-Descendant axis. The formula for this Part of Fortune is the degree of the Ascendant plus the degree of the Sun, minus the degree of the Moon. Written as: Asc + Sun – Moon

Location of the P.O.F.

Some traditions suggest that:

If the Part of Fortune is in a Fire sign the person will enjoy and gain from activity and leadership and benefit from fire.

If the Part of Fortune is in an Earth sign, the person will enjoy money and gain from financial areas and matters to do with the earth.

If the Part of Fortune is in an Air sign the person will enjoy intellectual areas and gain from them and all matters to do with air.

If the Part of Fortune is in a Water sign, the person will enjoy and gain from emotional areas and water.

The house where the Part of Fortune resides describes the area of gain.

All planetary aspects to the Part of Fortune will bring benefit according to the nature of the aspect. For example,

if the Part of Fortune is receiving squares, the person will enjoy challenge and competition to attain what they want.

If the Part of Fortune is receiving trines, the person will enjoy an easy flow in getting what they desire.

If the Part of Fortune is receiving quincunxes, the person will enjoy being flexible and making adjustments in life to get what they desire … and so on.

2. The Part of Spirit

(daemon) – (Spirit supported on matter)

Tradition suggests that this Lot can describe the spiritual reason for incarnation into this material, time based world.

The sign, decanate, duad will describe the soul’s purpose

The planets aspecting will describe the energies involved in this goal and how it is achieved.

The house where it resides will describe the area of the soul’s evolution.

The Part of Spirit is usually an area of delight in growth, and satisfaction when awareness and skills are developed.

The Part of Spirit is also calculated through the interplay of Ascendant, Sun and Moon and is the reverse formula to that of the Part of Fortune.

The formula for the Part of Spirit is Ascendant + Sun – Moon, but for those who wish to reverse the formula for night time births the formula for Part of Spirit is: Asc + Moon –Sun.

Calculating Arabic Parts:

If you use the 360 wheel of the zodiac the Parts are easy to calculate by hand:

0 = 0 Aries

30 = 0 Taurus

60 – 0 Gemini

90 = 0 Cancer

120 = 0 Leo

150 = 0 Virgo

180 = 0 Libra

210 = 0 Scorpio

240 = 0 Sagittarius

270 = 0 Capricorn

300 = 0 Aquarius

330 = 0 Pisces.

So, if a person had a planet at 18 degrees 03 minutes of Aquarius this would be 300 + 18.03 = 318.03.

Noviles

Noviles are derived from dividing 360° by 9 = 40 degrees. Multiples of this give: bi-novile = 80°; tri-novile = 120°; quad-novile = 160°; quin-novile = 200°; sen-novile = 240°; sept-novile = 280° and oct-novile = 320°. This makes up a nine point star.

The ‘novile’ degrees of the zodiac taken from 0 Aries are: 10 Taurus; 20 Gemini; 0 Leo; 10 Virgo; 20 Libra; 0 Sagittarius; 10 Capricorn; 20 Aquarius. People with these degrees prominent carry the novile energy regardless of whether they have a novile pattern or not.

Noviles always describe an initiation and in a natal chart describes the initiations to be undertaken this lifetime. The level of intensity is described by the planets and signs involved in the novile aspect or pattern. E.g. if a person has Moon novile Pluto, then the level of emotional intensity will be very high.

If novile aspects are connected in a novile pattern it suggests that this lifetime is part of a series of initiations that to some degree or another have been successful. If the novile pattern involves a trine this suggests that the trine (indication of a successful initiation) enables the person to succeed with the other planets involved in the pattern.

Initiations that have been successful tend to give very pleasant results, so the novile series of aspects have developed a rather nice reputation. However, I think that the quad-novile (160°) can be an indication of a very testing initiation connected to the planets and houses involved. This is particularly the case if there is a quad-novile arrow of two planets in a 40° aspect and both making a quad-novile aspect to a third planet. In this case the point of the arrow is the crucial planet and will require considerable awareness and skill.

Albert Einstein had a quadnovile aspect from the Moon to Pluto which was the ruler of his Scorpio Vertex and conjunction the antiVertex. This indicates a destined plutonian initiation that would have a powerful emotional effect. Notice that his Moon, in addition to being the ruler of his Ascendant, is involved in quintile, septile and novile aspects, so carries a great deal of energy. It is also out-of-bounds, indicating the ability to think outside the box.

His first major emotional initiation was at age 20, when Solar Arc Pluto moved to oppose natal Moon. He married his wife Mileva Maric in 1900 so this initiation would be described by meeting and marrying Mileva. She was an absolutely brilliant scientist and mathematician and is now credited with having formulated the Special Theory of Relativity as well as other ideas commonly attributed to Einstein, yet he treated her like a slave. He is notorious for the appalling memorandum of 1914 which lead to Mileva and his children leaving him. http://koti.mbnet.fi/neptunia/science/einstm1.htm.

His marriage was dissolved in 1919, when he was 40 and Solar Arc Moon had moved to trine natal Pluto.

Quintiles

The quintile series is found by dividing 360/5 = 72 degrees. You can then use multiples of 72 degrees to find the whole series. A biquintile = 144 degrees, a triquintile = 216 degrees, a quadquintile = 288 degrees. Making up a five point star.

The quintile degrees of the zodiac taken from 0 degrees Aries are: 12 Gemini (72 degrees); 24 Leo (144 degrees); 6 Scorpio (216 degrees) and 18 Capricorn (288 degrees).

For people born in the Southern Hemisphere, the quintile degrees starting from 0 Libra are : 12 Sagittarius (72 degrees) ; 24 Aquarius (144 degrees); 6 Taurus (216 degrees); 18 Cancer (288 degrees).

People with these degrees activated in their natal chart will respond to the quintile energy regardless of whether or not they have quintile patterns.

As quintiles are based on a 5 point star and human bodies have five fingers in each hand and five toes in each foot, as well as having five points on the body i.e. head, two arms and two legs, the quintile energy is particularly ‘human’.

Quintiles describe the creative/destructive processes in human life.

People with even one quintile series aspect or carrying quintile degrees have these qualities strongly marked in their nature. The creative/desctructive qualities are often interconnected e.g. Albert Einstein had a quintile pattern involving Moon-Jupiter-Neptune, with a midpoint structure of Jupiter = Moon/Neptune. He was a highly creative physicist whose work lead to splitting the atom, resulting in nuclear energy – and nuclear bombs! (click here to see chart Albert Einstein quintiles

Biquintiles can describe some form of clairvoyance or clairaudience, particularly if they are involved with the Vertex axis (doorway to other realities).

Alison Dubois

The chart of Alison Dubois (24th January 1972, 11.30 pm, Phoenix Arizona) clearly illustrates this. She has a perfect five point star involving Uranus-Ascendant, Jupiter, Venus, Vertex and South Node. The Vertex is in Taurus in the 8th house conjunct Hades, Moon and Saturn, she has always seen the dead and has help police with cases of murder. See article on Alison Dubois

Forecasting with Quintiles

When a natal planet is activated by a quintile series transit, progression or direction, then that area of life will respond to any creative input fitting the nature of the planets involved. e.g in 1916, the year he published his General Theory of Relativity, Albert Einstein had his natal Moon-Jupiter-Neptune quintile pattern activated by Solar Arc Mercury and stimulated by transiting Saturn in Cancer on one of the empty legs of his five point star. This pre-publishing period indicated a high level of creative thinking structured by Saturn.

Septile series

The septile series are found by dividing 360 degrees by 7 so the septile aspect = 51 degrees 25 minutes 43 seconds. Multiples of this give bi-septile = 102° 51’26”; tri-septile = 154° 17’ 08”; quad-septile = 205° 42’ 51”; quin-septile = 257°08’34”; sen-septile 308° 34’17”. This makes up a seven point star.

This translated into the degrees of the zodiac starting from 0 Aries give the septile degrees as 21-22 Taurus; 12-13 Cancer; 4-5 Virgo; 25-26 Libra; 17-18 Sagittarius; 8-9 Aquarius. These degrees carry the septile energy even if they are not involved in a septile pattern.

The Septile aspects are the first of the ‘infinite’ aspects as when 360 is divided by 7, you don’t get a round number but one that continues forever (51.42857143..) Therefore septiles are ‘wisdom seeking’ aspects.

If a septile pattern is formed in the natal chart it is often an indication that a measure of wisdom has been attained by the individual. Septiles give an interest in and ability to comprehend realities other than the norm, so they fit well with the Vertex axis which gives access to other realities. If septile patterns involve outer planets it is usually an indication of a person who quite different to the normal run of humanity. Its negative side is that it can lose touch with the reality that is considered normal.

So you find septile series people in science, religion, astrology, research, psychic areas – in fact any area that could be considered deeper or more recondite to the norm for a culture. For instance I know a veterinarian who can easily communicate with most animals, reptiles and birds who has a planet conjunct his 6th house Vertex which is also involved in a big septile-biseptile-triseptile pattern in his natal chart.

Septile people are often highly inventive, especially if an outer planet is involved in the pattern. I have found a number of them involved in artificial intelligence areas.

Unlike quintile series people, septile series people tend to be quiet, sometimes shy and very modest. Usually only people involved in the same area realise the extent of their considerable abilities and skills. If they have quintiles running off one of the planets involved in the septile pattern they can be highly creative (or destructive) with their knowledge or skill.

The septile patterns connected to the quintile patterns can be an indication of creative genius. E.g Albert Einstein had an Ascendant-Uranus-Moon septile pattern that tapped into his Moon-Jupiter-Neptune quintile pattern. So his genius Uranus had an excellent creative outlet.

Just as angles are considered in aspect patterns, so can house cusps. Albert Einstein’s strong septile pattern was enhanced by the Porphyry 5^th cusp at 22 -23 Libra, septile Uranus and Moon and giving midpoint structures of Uranus = Asc/5^th cusp and 5^th cusp = Moon/Uranus. This would increase his creative enjoyment of the septile energy.

As the septiles give the ability to understand other realities it fits well with the Vertex axis, which is a doorway to other realities, so you often find the two combined in some way in the charts of exceptional people. For example, Albert Einstein had his Vertex in Scorpio, with the ruler, Pluto, conjunct the antiVertex and in septile aspect to Mercury Saturn. He also had a septile pattern involving Asc-Uranus-Moon. The Moon was involved in a quintile pattern made up of Moon-Jupiter-Neptune and Uranus was biquintle Mars, so he was able to become an expert in his chosen field (septile) and develop further creative/destructive use in that area (quintiles). One of the signatures of psychic ability is a septile aspect or pattern running off the Vertex axis, though people with this configuration usually do not enjoy publicity and prefer to keep their skills private.

It is not unusual to have a planet in a septile series aspect to the Ascendant. In fact, it is always there in the few charts I have that I know have an absolutely accurate time of birth, so I am considering that perhaps it is a signature of the birth process. This becomes very powerful if there is an actual septile pattern involved with the Ascendant.

Septile transits are always important if you are looking at the charts of people who have specialised knowledge in their field and/or are involved in the ‘wisdom’ areas of life.

Because the septile energy is very finely tuned it is difficult to work with it in prediction as it tends not to produce obvious outward events. However check out 1915, the year before Einstein published The General Theory of Relativity. That year he had transiting Jupiter retrograding back and forth over 27 Pisces, one of the empty legs of his septile pattern, giving him enormous inspiration for his work.

Daily Age Harmonics

SUB-RHYTHYMS: Age Harmonics and their fractions:

The easiest way to calculate these is through an astrology program. With Solar Fire v6 and v7 it is very simple: Highlight the chart you want to use. On the top left hand menu click Chart and then Harmonic/Transform. Under ‘Chart Type to Generate’ click ‘Harmonic Age’ and on the left hand side key in the date, time and place of the event. Then click OK and the calculated chart will appear. The harmonic fraction being used will show under the name of the person.

This is the most fascinating, wondrous way of using Age Harmonics. It is so very accurate, to the point that you can refine your time of birth to the second if you have enough life events.

For example: Prince Charles first son, William, was born on 21 June 1982. Prince Charles would be living his 33 harmonic that year as he was 33 years old.

You can see big, destined events are at foot this year because the harmonic Vertex is conjunct the natal North Node and square natal Ascendant. (The Nodes always show in matters to do with family and the Vertex always shows in matters to do with relationships and destiny) . The harmonic South Node is in the 5th house, in trine to the natal MC, again indicating a family matter involving children (5th house) with whom there may be a past life connection (South Node).

Now look what happens when we do an Age Harmonic for the exact date of Prince William’s birth. The fraction is 33.59677.

The harmonic Sun is conjunct the natal Koch 5th house cusp.

The harmonic Vertex is conjunct natal IC

Harmonic IC and 5th cusp is conjunct natal MC

Harmonic Mercury (ruler of harmonic 7th cusp) is conjunct natal Uranus (ruler of natal 7th cusp). Indicating the importance of his wife’s role in this event.

Harmonic Uranus and harmonic Vertex trine natal 5th house Vertex.

Harmonic North Node is sextile natal North Node.

Harmonic Neptune is quincunx harmonic Vertex (William has Neptune rising).

Now look what happens when you put together the Year Age Harmonic and the Daily Age Harmonic for a timer:

The Year Age Harmonic is the inside wheel, the Daily Age Harmonic is the outside wheel:

The Ascendant of the Daily Age Harmonic chart is conjunct the Nodes of the Year Harmonic Chart—acting as an important timer for the event.

The MC of the Age Harmonic Chart is conjunct the Uranus of the Year Harmonic Chart—also a timing indication.

Though it is not illustrated here, the 11th cusp of the Age Harmonic chart is conjunct the Vertex of the Year Harmonic chart – another timer (and also conjunct the IC of the natal chart).

Now look what happens when I put the Daily Age Harmonic of Prince Charles for his son’s birth around the natal chart of Prince William: (click here to see the natal chart of Prince William)

You can see that Prince Charles Age Harmonic Pluto is conjunct Prince William’s Ascendant.

Prince Charles Age Harmonic MC is conjunct Prince William’s Descendant.

Prince Charles Age Harmonic Ascendant is quincunx Prince William’s Node.

Prince Charles Age Harmonic Mercury is conjunct Prince William’s Sun.

Prince Charles Age Harmonic Node is conjunct Prince William’s Moon.

This indicates that the Daily Age Harmonic of a parent’s chart might have quite a bit to do with the birth time of the child.

RECTIFICATION USING DAILY AGE HARMONICS

Age Harmonics are very specific—they work within one degree, and are often much closer than that. Therefore, if an Age Harmonic conjunction to a natal planet or angle is over one degree, you don’t count it at all.

Age Harmonics move very quickly indeed, so often, if you adjust the natal chart by a couple of seconds, you can see everything fall into place.

For example; In the previous chart you might have noticed that Age Harmonic Pluto was conjunct Prince William’s natal Ascendant and Age Harmonic MC was conjunct Prince William’s Descendant, BUT Pluto and IC were over one degree apart so you could not say that Prince Charles Daily Age Harmonic chart for the birth of his son had Pluto opposite MC.

However, It is possible that Daily Age Harmonic MC is opposite Daily Age Harmonic Pluto as the birth of Charles’ first son was of great importance. It consolidated his position of heir apparent and stabilized the inheritance line of the throne. Prince Charles is also a “Pluto person” as he has Pluto rising and the Sun in Scorpio.

If you adjust Prince Charles’ time of birth by 3 SECONDS, you find that the Age Harmonic MC moves to 27 Gemini 29, opposite Age Harmonic Pluto and exactly conjunct Prince William’s Descendant. The other angles’ measurements (as previously discussed) will still apply excepting Daily Age Harmonic IC, which has moved to oppose natal Neptune and Prince William’s Saturn.

The next step is to see if this adjustment works for the dates of other important Age Harmonics. If it does, you can confirm that Prince Charles was born at 9.14.03 pm.

The older you get, the faster your Age Harmonics move, so it is easy to see the correct time of birth if you are a mature person. So lets check out this rectified time using the Daily Age Harmonic for the marriage of Charles and Camilla, his second wife, on 9th April 2005. (click here to see her chart Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall As Charles was born at 9.14 pm and the marriage was in the morning of the 9th, we use the harmonic of 8th April – or we can use the harmonic of 9th April at the exact time of the marriage, in this case at approximately 12.45 pm, at Windsor.

I rather like this harmonic, particularly as the Ascendant is conjunct Charles’ Part of Marriage at 24Scorpio47! – and trine Camilla’s natal Sun at 23Cancer47.

The Ascendant was square Pluto the day before, and if you remember, the wedding was scheduled for the 8th but had to be deferred because the Pope died.

I also like the Vertex conjunct Mercury and trine Chiron. Well aspected Chiron is frequently present in marriage charts.

The IC of this chart is square Charles’ natal MC-IC .

Here is Charles natal chart with the harmonic for his marriage to Camilla in the outside wheel:

The harmonic Descendant on his natal Descendant is enough of a trigger, but the DAH MC on his natal Moon and the Sun-Neptune conjunction on his natal 2nd cusp are also valuable triggers.

TRIGGERS:

Transits

Daily Age Harmonics move very fast, so they are always contacting Age Harmonic and natal planets and angles. Therefore they need planetary transits to bring potential events into the outer world. Usually, if there is no planetary transit(s) to an Age Harmonic Chart (which is also activating the natal chart), no event will happen. The process will stay internal. However, this is a “rule of thumb” as other forces can enable Daily Age Harmonics (which trigger the natal chart) to manifest as events.

“Outer world” cycles

Progressed Solar Returns and Lunar Returns can often make it possible for a Daily Age Harmonic to manifest during that period. Planetary returns can also activate sensitive points to which Daily Age Harmonics respond .

Eclipses sensitise certain points in the chart that will manifest with events through Daily Age Harmonics.

Solar Arcs, Progressions, Progressed Moon etc

The Progressed Moon can be a particularly powerful point. If the Progressed Moon is in exact aspect to a natal planet or angle, a Daily Age Harmonic point (particularly an angle) moving over that point at the same time, will often trigger an event.

Solar Arcs are the Arc of the Sun for a specific age applied to the natal chart. Because they are the arc of the Sun, they tend to be an active point in the chart. If a Solar Arc is in exact aspect to a natal planet or angle, a Daily Age Harmonic moving over this point can activate an event.

Tertiary Progressions are also excellent timers so the same rule applies. If a Tertiary Progression is in exact aspect to a natal planet or angle, and a Daily Age Harmonic activates that point, this can produce an event.

RETURNS

Solar Return:

Prince Charles SR for his marriage has an Ascendant for Windsor of 6Capricorn28. This was activated by Daily Age Harmonic Venus at 6Capricorn on the day of his marriage to Camilla.

The SR Saturn, ruler of the SR Ascendant, was in the SR 7th house at 27Capricorn18. This was activated by Daily Age Harmonic Saturn at 27Capricorn01.

SR North Node was at 2Taurus04 opposite SR Mars at 2Scorpio10. This was activated by Daily Age Harmonic Uranus at 1Taurus58.

Progressed Solar Return Ascendant had moved to 23Leo48 conjunct 10th cusp of Daily Age Harmonic Chart.

Lunar Return:

LR Sun was at 22Pisces48 trine natal Sun at 22Scorpio25 and DAH Ascendant at 23Scorpio34.

PROGRESSIONS:

Solar Arc:

You might have wondered about DAH Mars in Charles natal 7th house. It wasn’t in aspect to anything, but it WAS in the 7th house. Well, Solar Arc Mars was 18Aquarius15 in natal 7th house. This was triggered by DAH Mars at 17Aquarius28 and transiting Neptune at 17Aquarisu10. A powerful “triple whammy”, suggesting that Charles has an important “energy point” at this degree.

Tertiary Progressions:

TP Ascendant was at 21Leo14. DAH Pluto triggered that on the day of the wedding at 22Leo06.

Secondary Progressed Moon was at 21Taurus04 on the day of the wedding DAH North Node was in trine to that point at 21Virgo44.

… and so on.

CALCULATING DAILY AGE HARMONICS:

The best and quickest way to calculate Daily Age Harmonics is to purchase Solar Fire Deluxe. All you have to do is put in the date of the event and the program will calculate the harmonic for you.

Solar Fire V5 and other good astrology programs have a section where you can easily calculate your Yearly Age Harmonic. All you do is put in your age and the program will calculate it for you.

To calculate your Daily Age Harmonic with a calculator take the following steps.

Note the Julian Day of the event *
Note the Julian Day of your birth
Take away the Julian Day of your birth from the Julian Day of the event.
Divide this sum by 365.24220461 (the days in a tropical year)
This will give you a figure that is your Daily Age Harmonic for the event.
Enter this figure into the Harmonic section of your astrology program. and click OK
Your Daily Age Harmonic chart for that event will appear.

* The Julian Day can be found in Solar Fire “Chart Analysis Report”. Right up the top JDE is Julian Day.

Example using Prince Charles marriage.

The Julian Day for his marriage on the 9th April 2005 was 2453469

The Julian Day for his birth was 2432870

Total 20599

Divide by 365.24220461 = 56.3982

Enter this figure into your Harmonics section to get the chart for that day.

Alternatively, multiply each angle and planet in your chart by this figure, and take off multiples of 360 until you get under 360.

You can then turn the remaining figure into zodiac sign and degree using the principle that 0° = 0 Aries; 30° = 0 Taurus; 60° = Gemini, and so on.

Age Harmonics

The concept of Harmonics was first presented by JOHN ADDEY m.a. d.f.Astrol.s who published his book “Harmonics in Astrology” in 1976.

In the introduction of his book he stated “The picture that has emerged is one of harmonics, that is, the rhythms and sub-rhythms of cosmic periods, which can be demonstrated to provide the basis of all astrological doctrine both ancient and modern. Furthermore, it is a picture which can be seen to be in harmony not only with the purest traditions of Western (and indeed Oriental) philosophy, but also with the most illuminating discoveries of modern science, and especially with present day studies of biological and other rhythms in man and nature.”

The book is profound and even after purchasing it in the late ‘70’s and frequent reading, I am still discovering new ways the harmonic principles can be applied.

Most Astrologers are familiar with the idea that aspects in a chart are derived from the division of the 360° circle by the base numbers. Astrologers calculate using the base number 12, so the aspects in a chart are found by dividing the numbers 1-12 into 360°:-

360/1 = 360 ° = conjunction = 1st harmonic

360/2 = 180 ° = opposition = 2nd harmonic

360/3 = 120° = trine = 3rd harmonic

360/4 = 90° = square = 4th harmonic

360/5 = 72° = quintile = 5th harmonic

360/6 = 60° = sextile = 6th harmonic

360/7 = 51°25’ = septile = 7th harmonic

360/8 = 45° = semisquare = 8th harmonic

360/9 = 40° = novile = 9th harmonic

360/10 = 36° = decile = 10th harmonic

360/11 = 32°43’ = undecile = 11th harmonic

360/12 = 30° = semisextile = 12th harmonic

These basic harmonics can be multiplied and still retain their core meaning, so:- The fifth harmonic = 72° multiplied by 2 = 144° = bi-quintile

The seventh harmonic = 51°25’ multiplied by 2 = 102°50’ = bi-septile and multiplied by 3 = 154°15’ = tri-septile.

The eighth harmonic = 45° multiplied by 3 = 135° = sesiquadrate.

The ninth harmonic = 40° multiplied by 2 = 80 = bi-novile,

multiplied by 4 = 160 = quadnovile — and so on.

RHYTHMS:

From the moment of our first breath in this world our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies are continually assimilating information, which leads to continuous growth and development of our psyche.

In astrology one of the methods of mapping this continuous movement and development is Age Harmonics—even to the finest fractions of internal daily movement.

Note: All harmonic charts need to include the Descendant as well as the Ascendant, the IC as well as the MC and the antiVertex as well as the Vertex as in harmonics these angles are not in their usual opposition point.

Each year of life emphasises and unfolds one of the harmonics and their multiples:-

The period between 0-1 opens and develops harmonic fractions

The period between 1-2 opens and develops the 1st harmonic, the conjunction

The period between 2-3 opens and develops the 2nd harmonic, the opposition

The period between 3-4 opens and develops the 3rd harmonic, the trine

The period between 4-5 opens and develops the 4th harmonic, the square

The period between 5-6 opens and develops the 5th harmonic, the quintile

The period between 6-7 opens and develops the 6th harmonic, the sextile

The period between 7-8 opens and develops the 7th harmonic, the septile

The period between 8-9 opens and develops the 8th harmonic, the semi-square

The period between 9-10 opens and develops the 9th harmonic, the novile

The period between 10-11 opens and develops the 10th harmonic, the decile

The period between 11-12 opens and develops the 11th harmonic, the undecile

The period between 12-13 opens and develops the 12th harmonic, the semisextile.

So you can do harmonic charts for each of these years to see how the aspects are being developed by the child.

For example, the harmonic chart for the 4th year, the Square aspect, might have a number of trines – indicating the development of the 4th harmonic was quite harmonious. One would then expect the child developed the ability to use their squares in a harmonious way.

to illustrate, let us look at the 4th harmonic chart for Prince Charles:

This is the natal chart of Prince Charles. You can see that he has Mercury-South Node opposite Moon-North Node and both square the Ascendant. This describes and environment (Ascendant) that is strongly affected by the family (Nodes) and particularly mother (Moon) and siblings (Mercury ruler of the 3rd house).

You can see that Charles natal Nodes-Ascendant-Mercury T square, has come together as a conjunction in the 4th harmonic chart. The orb is quite wide in the harmonic chart because when you multiply the natal orb in the T square by 4 (4th harmonic) you get a much larger orb in the harmonic chart. e.g. the Moon is 4 degrees and 36 minutes away from the North Node, so when that is multiplied by 4 you get an 18 degree 24 minute orb between the Moon and the North Node in the 4th harmonic chart.

In the 4th harmonic chart you can see the Ascendant and Noes are in trine to Saturn. This enabled Charles, at the age of 4-5, to develop that natal T square in a harmonious (trine) and disciplined (Saturn) way.

At age four Prince Charles attended his mother’s coronation as Queen Elizabeth II of the UK. Note that the 4th harmonic chart has Leo rising, with the Moon, Mercury and the Nodes in Leo (drama, royalty) and the MC-IC conjunction at 23 Taurus 19 is opposite his natal Sun. This configuration suggests a year of prominence for young Charles.

Harmonics are the very best way to incorporate Numerology into Astrology. You can use the birthday date and the total of the birth date to see how each harmonic works.

For example: Prince Charles was born on the 14th, so he would be very responsive to the 14th harmonic, and its first base number 1+4 = 5— the 5th harmonic and the quintile series of aspects.

Here is the chart of Prince Charles showing his quintile aspects (click to enlarge)

You can see that Prince Charles has a quintile pattern (5th harmonic) involving the Ascendant-Venus-Jupiter and a bi-quintile between Sun-Uranus. This indicates that he may have quite a strong interest in one of the creative fields, which would start wanting to find an outlet around the age of 5-6 when his 5th harmonic was activated.

You can see that the natal Ascendant-Venus-Jupiter quintile pattern has come together as a conjunction in the 5th harmonic chart, as has the Sun-Uranus. Sun-Uranus is conjunct Descendant, indicating that the Descendant was part of a quintile pattern in the natal chart involving Sun-Desc-Uranus—this pattern would strongly affect his marriage as it involved the 7th cusp and its ruler.

The two quintile patterns make and opposition to each other in the 5th harmonic chart. This both increases the interest and development, and the tension. The squares to the Nodes indicate that the family might not have encouraged or valued his creative expression—or in some way brought tension in his attempts to develop and express it.

Prince Charles education started at home on his fifth birthday. He showed no aptitude for learning, but did show an early aptitude for art and loved day dreaming. This greatly irritated his father, Prince Phillip, who often chastised him, both in private and in public.

As the actual birthday of Prince Charles is the 14th, the 14th harmonic will always be very important in his life. (click to enlarge chart)

This looks as though it could be a big year. There is a Sun-Saturn conjunction conjunct his natal MC making his 14th year a serious and important period for his future life direction

Sun-Saturn is the focus point for a quintile pattern involving Mercury and Venus with a midpoint structure of Sun-Saturn = Mercury/Venus. Clearly a period where he would start to seriously structure his interest in the arts or would decide to drop it. As Prince Charles is an excellent artist, I would expect the former.

At this time Prince Charles was attending Gordonstoun, a school near Elgin in Eastern Scotland which The Duke of Edinburgh had attended. This was a very rigorous school and Prince Charles hated it, however he found solace in art classes and developed considerable skill, he became particularly adept at pottery.

You can see what part of yourself you develop at each year of life by using the relevant harmonic.

If the harmonic chart describes a powerful year or is connected to your birthdate harmonics, you can see the people that will come into your life in the future (who are related to that harmonic), by the signs and degrees of the harmonic chart.

The harmonic charts that are related to any major pattern you have in your natal chart are very important.

The harmonic charts that are related to your birthday and birth date total are going to be very important as these are powerful developmental years.

If you have a close to exact time of birth the harmonic chart for your birthday will often quite clearly describe the situations and events of the coming year. If the Age Harmonic Chart aligns to the natal chart with orbs within one degree, then it is likely that the year will be quite important in your life.

If your time of birth is not accurate, the Age harmonic chart is an excellent tool for rectification.
